Amos Zungu

Amos Zungu has an extensive background in auditing, having served as an Audit Manager in the Office of the Auditor General for more than 15 years. His experience includes overseeing audits for National Departments and Public Entities in Gauteng, while also leading audit teams for provincial departments, entities, and municipalities across Northern Cape, Mpumalanga, and KwaZulu-Natal Provinces. Since 2022, he has transitioned into academia as an Auditing Lecturer at the Durban University of Technology, where he engages in research and works closely with industry and community stakeholders.

Zungu holds a Master’s degree in Accountancy from the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) and is a Registered Government Auditor (RGA). His Master’s thesis addressed financial disciplines within KZN municipalities, exploring managers' perceptions of irregular expenditure, the oversight role of councillors, and the capacity of Municipal Public Account Committees (MPACs).

In addition to his teaching, he chairs the Audit Committee in the public sector. Currently, he is pursuing a PhD at the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN). His research seeks to investigate stakeholder understanding of these issues, evaluate the implementation of consequence management related to irregular expenditure and procurement irregularities, and assess the effectiveness of internal controls intended to prevent such financial mismanagement.
